The Client: HINDUSTAN LATEX LIMITED
Hindustan Latex Limited

Welfare. HLL has an impressive production
infrastructure for a range of Contraceptives
and Health Care Products. The products under
the brand are being exported to over 70
countries today. It is also one of the world’s
largest manufacturers of condoms with an
annual production capacity of 800 million
pieces. Project
Background
The Marketing department
of HLL is situated at it headquarters. The
department has under it a number of Clearing
and Forwarding (C&F) agents and distributors
whose work is coordinated through regional
offices across the country.
Items manufactured at the factories are
distributed countrywide via these C&F
agents and distributors. The system prior
to the implementation of Logistics Information
System (LIS) that we developed was very
conventional. The software that was in use
fell way short of satisfying the client’s
specific needs. And this created many a
trouble in the entire network. And the company
suffered loss of time, money and manpower
because of this.
Requirement
The client needed software that satisfied
their unique needs for effective and smooth
running of the entire system. A user friendly
product that co-ordinate the entire process
for better benefits. Team e-biz’s
solution
A web-based solution called Logistics Information
System (LIS) for them to enable the Head
Office to track the daily activities of
sale, stock position, inventory status etc.
of C&F agents and distributors countrywide.
Two major entities in this solution are
Logistics Information System (LIS) Server
(a website) and LIS Client (the client software
installed at different C&F locations).
Data needed to be synchronised between the
server and client databases. We used MS
SQL Server 2000 for LIS Server and MS Access
2000 for LIS Client. The optimum solution
was arrived at using XML Web Services for
two-way synchronisation between two databases,
which is unique as well as cost effective. Technology
- Coding: Visual Basic for LIS Client,
ASP for LIS Server and SOAP Toolkit for
Web Service incorporation.
- Databases: MS SQL Server 2000 on LIS
Server and MS Access 2002 on LIS Clients.
- Data Interchange Format in Client Server
Synchronization: XML.
- Data Access: XML Web Services, ADO
3.0.
- Creative Development: HTML, DHTML,
CSS.
Client Benefits
- Customised to update daily, weekly,
monthly quarterly and annual reports with
graphical analysis with just a click from
anywhere in the world.
- Seamless and transparent C&F operations.
- Cost effective and efficient way to
synchronize C&F agents’ data
with head office data.
